The hottest defensive line duo that the Arizona Cardinals have had in recent times is beginning to get started. One of them is at training camp, the other is in the camp but isn't doing any training as of yet. Defensive end J.J. Watt and Chandler Jones are expected to be the most formidable force for Arizona in 2022's season. But for the time being only one half is working out as Cardinals training camp gets underway.
Fortunately, this isn't important as Watt has still emphasized his excitement for the new season. If you talk to the Bird Gang's fans enough and you'll see the frequency with which Watt and Jones appear in the same phrase. Jones' trade request remains a rumor.
But, Jones is in camp regardless and from what has been seen so far, looks like wearing Cardinals red is the way to go. In the end, there needs to be a pretty convincing reason not to play alongside J.J. Watt. It is also quite an enormous difference to be playing the season without Jones and playing 2022 with Larry Fitzgerald, who has been unable to show up. Fitzgerald's impact on the game is far more effective than Jones'.
However, training camp has just started, and for the moment, Watt and Jones are still in the Valley. The final year of Jones contract will appear regardless. Jones, who has been a three-time Pro Bowler, has done numerous things to earn money over the course of his time since moving to Arizona.
If an extension to the contract is required, Cardinals fans are likely hoping it is done soon. If Jones were to walk away and the Cardinals don't have a chance to win the playoffs that wouldn't be a good look on the front desk.
